Grants of $5,000 to USA visual artists over the age of 60 for artwork preservation and historical documentation. Funding is intended to help artists initiate new work or a special project, create a website, acquire studio space, catalog their art or their history, publish a catalog, archive and store their work, or show their work at an exhibition. Applicants must work in visual media, which may include painting, sculpture, installation, works on paper, printmaking, photography, video, film, digital, or performance art.

Applicants must have a specific project that they wish to pursue. 

The defining factors in the selection process are the quality of the proposed project and the accompanying visual material, the applicant’s professional history, and the applicant’s financial need.

Grants will be awarded in the amount of $5000.00 each.

Term of Contract:

The grants are intended for a one-year period of time. Grantees may reapply for funds after a five-year waiting period.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Tree of Life welcomes applications from individual artists of recognizable artistic merit, age 60 and over. Applicants must be permanent residents of the United States; applicants must work in visual media, which may include painting, sculpture, installation, works on paper, printmaking, photography, video, film, digital, or performance art; applicants must have a specific project that they wish to pursue; and applicants must have demonstrable financial need.

Applicants not selected for a grant may reapply the following year.

Tree of Life does not accept applications from organizations, institutions or corporations. Only individual artists may apply.

Pre-Application Information:

Applicants may submit their application beginning on February 10, 2020. The deadline for receipt of your application is 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, April 2, 2020. However, the Foundation strongly advises you to not wait until the last minute in order to avoid “traffic jams” in the Dropbox account. Applicants will be notified of the results on or before June 30.

The Foundation will send the applicant a confirmation email when they receive the folder. This process could take up to 72 hours. Note: It is the applicant's responsibility to notify the Foundation (before the application deadline) if the applicant did not receive a confirmation.

Applicants are asked to submit a fully completed application, and the requested biographical and visual documentation. Applicants should focus their proposal on a specific project and present a consistent selection of their artistic work.

Applicants need to create a free Dropbox account, and create a folder following the Foundation's requirements, and share the folder with the Foundation.
