Grant Description
Opportunity for Michigan veterans, active duty members of the military, military spouses, and dependents to participate in a business development program. Successful applicants will participate in an entrepreneurship accelerator, which will include hands-on startup education, customized support, and funding opportunities. The program will take place over a three-month period.

Michigan Veteran Entrepreneur-Lab (MVE-Lab) is a free 3-month entrepreneurship accelerator for veterans and/or military spouses. It is designed to provide hands-on startup education for those seeking to add $20,000 or more annual income to their household through small business activity.

A program of Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Richard M. and Helen DeVos Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (CEI), MVE-Lab provides education in the startup process and connections to Michigan's robust entrepreneur ecosystem.

Participants work on their business launch over a 3 month period. Guests include other veteran entrepreneurs, mentors, and experts like attorneys and marketing specialists. MVE-Lab equips participants to identify their target customers, network with others, and find the resources they need to launch profitably and successfully. 

The MVE-Lab Provides:

  • A peer group of veteran entrepreneurs 
  • Facilitated learning from GVSU 
  • Feedback on business strategy
  • Customized support
  • Access to grants and loans
  • New relationships in the ecosystem


Additional Eligibility Criteria
This program is available to veterans and military connected families who reside in the state of Michigan. Applicants must be 18 years or older to participant in this program and to be eligible to pitch.

Veterans, active duty, military spouses, and dependents ( a dependent is a family member who relies on the veteran financially and meets certain criteria. Examples of dependents for VA purposes are supposed, children between the ages of 18-26, and disabled children).

Pre-Proposal Conference
MVE-Lab Battle Creek Cohort 13 Intro Night: Join in for a no-obligation, no-commitment Intro Night held on Monday, February 19th at 6 pm. Learn more about MVE to find out if the program is for you. You'll be able to meet the facilitators, hear about the program requirements, and get a sense of who else is interested in starting something.

Estimated Size of Grant
The Entrepreneur Lab concludes with a Pitch Showcase awarding at least $20,000 in prize money.

Term of Contract
The Michigan Veteran Entrepreneur-Lab cohort 13, will run in Grand Rapids from February 19, 2024, and the Final Pitch event and Showcase event will be May 13, 2024.
