Grants to Michigan nonprofit organizations and government agencies in eligible locations for programs that benefit children and families. Applicants must contact program staff prior to applying. Funding is intended to address the long-term health and developmental needs of local children. The goal of the program is to increase family, social, and emotional support, and parenting skills; and to improve access to a medical home-health and child-health team for all children and pregnant mothers. Eligible programs must benefit children in Flint.

Focus Area 1: Improve access to a medical home and a child health team for all children and pregnant mothers, to ensure in part that all children are provided with robust developmental assessments and support. Measurable outcomes include:

  • Reduction in the number of children visiting the emergency department, and missed or no-show medical home appointments;
  • Increase in well-child visit rates and/or use of medical home prevention services;
  • Reduction of child/family barriers to accessing a medical home;
  • Increase in prenatal visits by pregnant mothers; and
  • Increase in children reaching developmental milestones

Focus Area 2:  Increase family, social and emotional support, and parenting skills. Measurable outcomes include:

  • Increase in children and parents accessing mental health services
  • Improving service provider knowledge and skills in trauma-informed care and supports
  • Increase in children and parents receiving information and education regarding stress management and resiliency
