Grants of up to $4,000 to Michigan nonprofit organizations, schools, and municipalities for youth or young adult-led arts and cultural projects. Eligible project costs include marketing, fees for artists, direct project supplies, and travel and accommodation for artists. Programs must be led by youth or young adults ages 14 to 30 years, or by a group of young people.

Funding is intended to support arts and cultural related projects or collaborations led by a young person who is associated or connected to an established youth or teen council or young professionals group, or for the formation of a new teen or youth council or group. 

Funding may only be used for:

  • Artist fees
  • In-state travel or lodging for artists
  • Marketing
  • Consumable supplies related to the instructional component of the project


MCACA strives to make the arts accessible to all people and this is a priority of its funding programs. Funded organizations agree to make every attempt to ensure that programs are accessible to persons with disabilities.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

501(c)(3) organization, municipality or school who host, facilitate, run, or manage a youth/teen council or young professionals group are all eligible to apply for this program. Youth who have a formal seat on the board of an organization are also eligible to apply through the organization. Organizations who wish to create a youth/teen council or young professionals arm to their work are eligible to apply.

Applicants must be incorporated and located in the State of Michigan. They must ensure no part of net earnings benefit a private individual.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are to be submitted online through SmartSimple no later than 5:00 p.m. EST, June 1, 2020.

Applicants are advised to start the application process early to leave time for questions.

Applicants must match awarded grant funds 1:1. This match may be cash, in-kind, or a combination of both.

A $50 application fee is required to submit your grant application.
