Grants of up to $30,000 to Michigan nonprofit organizations, universities, colleges, and municipalities for arts and cultural programs in local communities. Funding is intended to strengthen local communities and provide diverse and accessible arts programming.

The Project Support program is a competitive grant program that provides support for the production, presentation and creation of arts and culture that promotes public engagement, diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening or livability of communities through the arts.

These projects connect communities with the world by exploring, sharing and supporting creative expression, and by doing so they promote the health and well-being of communities and citizens throughout the state. Accessibility: 

MCACA strives to make the arts accessible to all people and this is a priority of its funding programs. Funded organizations agree to make every attempt to ensure that programs are accessible to persons with disabilities. 

Funding can be used for:

  • Artist fees
  • In-state travel or lodging for artists
  • Marketing
  • Consumable supplies related to the instructional component of the project
  • Field trip admission (excluding transportation) to museums, theaters, galleries, etc. for the core group of students only if it is integral to the instructional component of the project and includes a guided lesson.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Applicants can request a minimum of $5,000 or a maximum of $30,000.

Term of Contract:

Funded projects must be take place and be completed within the MCACA grant period: October 1, 2020 - September 30, 2021.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Only nonprofit, non-arts organizations(such as a health care facility, or organizations working with veterans, an aging population, incarcerated youth or adults, individuals with disabilities, or lifelong learners, individuals with disabilities, or lifelong learners), colleges/universities, or municipalities are eligible(the categories in this program have further restrictions, see category information for eligibility detail). Applicants must be incorporated and located in the State of Michigan. They must ensure no part of net earnings benefit a private individual. Donations to the organizations must be allowable as a charitable contribution under section 170c of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 as amended.(Organizations with tatus under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code and local units of Government meet this criteria.)

Note: Nonprofit arts organizations are encouraged to apply in the Operational Support program.

Applications are to be submitted online through SmartSimple no later than 5:00 p.m. EST, June 1, 2020.

Grants awarded must be matched on a 1:1 basis with cash; no in-kind services allowed.
